Hey group,
Did anyone see the editorial column I the 1/10 edition of the Lowell Sun? The paper urges Westford voters to “Vote no on Graniteville Woods.” The only problem I have with these columns is I would like the author of the pieces to submit their names, as we are required to do when we submit a letter or a comment. This piece is a prime example of what complacency to political agenda’s are doing to our towns and our futures, along with the future generations. Town boards should have control over what is being built and the character of their town relating to their residents wishes. The additional tax burden to prevent “Affordable Townhouses and Condominiums” which this article proclaims are needed must not be mandated by the state conflicting agendas or the self-serving individuals who control what we read or see in media.
A lesson I have learned from many, many years ago is, to examine the background of the person making the statement. Although I do enjoy reading the Lowell Sun and the Billerica Minuteman along with picking some other local newspapers, I find much contradiction in all. The only reason I am able to figure out is, most people “want to have their cake and eat it too.” In other words, they want everything until it effects them personally or have a “not in my backyard attitude.” I know this because I was once guilty of the same attitude but not to the extremes presented today.
Here is a friendly suggestion relating to reading or viewing today media. We’ll let’s use the editorial mentioned as an example. The author of the piece should immediately have the reader ask, where does the author live or will this affordable housing be built where he or she lives, what tax bracket does the author fit into, and what does the author have to gain personally from his or her point of view? These questions relating to agendas was once referred to as critical thinking and is what made our country great, but the folks with the agenda’s will profess, this kind of thinking as, “opinionated” or “not politically correct,” so they can push their agenda’s down our throats!
The main point I am attempting to relate to all of you is, if the author is willing to make the statement then they should be willing to tell us who they and at least let us find the answers to their reasoning as critical thinkers. My best wishes to the residents of Westford in making the right decision.
Ed
