Posted by Ed on January 20, 2007, 7:22 pm The issue of allowing a power plant to be constructed in our town has even caught the interest of our neighboring town residents as well as some concerned citizens from Billerica. The truth on the matter is what are the long-term affects of this project? The 1.5 million in projected revenue sounds great, but at what cost in the long run? Can we trust new technology with our long-term health? I don’t profess to have answers to these questions or any of the many others we may have, but I think now is the time to ask them or shall we just trust others to make them for us.

Hey Group,
The Power Plant proposal was again discussed at the selectmen meeting and the Power Company’s Representatives were requesting that the project include two more generating turbines be allowed. Chairman Ellen Rawlings stated that she put this on the agenda to inform everyone that there was a deadline for comments regarding the Environmental Review on 1/12/07. The appropriate permitting Department Heads were to attend.
Town Manager Rocco Longo commented the Staff from town was well represented. What was mentioned was some residents from Chelmsford were at the meetings that were not notified and Mr. Longo was going to attempt to reach out to Paul Cohen in Chelmsford to keep good relations up.
Selectman Marc Lombardo asked Mr. Longo if he knew why they were increasing the size of the plant.
Mr. Longo replied no and he will find out.
Mr. Lombardo then submitted a number of questions from concerned citizens of our town.
Mr. Longo stated he would be glad to find the answers to these questions.
Regarding the question of increasing the size of the plant, selectman Kathy Matos stated she believed the reason was due to the energy demand of the area.
Chairman Ellen Rawlings stated that the Environmental Review is just the start of the process. The residents concerns are top priority.
A field trip was discussed to visit the Bellingham Power Plant.
Selectman Rosa made a motion to move to Executive Session and Selectman Matos seconded. The board went into Executive Session to discuss strategy on Collective Bargaining.
