Hey Group,
I wish to make some general statements at this time in reply to many comments I have received from members of our group, and many non-members as well. I want to commend Judi for taking some personal action and hopefully waking up some fellow taxpayers from Tewksbury through their local paper and Jan for the support relating to more pollutant data. I do wish to warn Judi that most local papers are restricted from being to controversial like Billerica’s Minuteman. Although, in their defense the Minuteman did allow my letter to editor in their publication which related to posting (29 BWG) called “Read and Compare,” but I was requested to tone it down a bit. So don’t become discouraged if the paper does not take enough of a hard line on the issue as some may like. As far as getting neighbors organized, that is why these two sites were created. Life for most of us is moving to fast and we all need a quick way to spread the word relating to all issues, facing all towns, so encourage membership. Even if we disagree on some matters most will come together on most, if people really think about how almost all the issues relate to each other.
To ignore or be too busy to watch what is transpiring throughout most of the state will only bring all taxpayer’s down financially or physically, sooner or later. For example, the Power Plant proposal is directly related to the unnecessary construction being forced down our towns throats by the state, and the powerful developers (not local builders making a living). The excessive construction taking place destroys any form of a budget which, a responsible town may try to keep in line relating to its infrastructure. We are talking about the “Quality of our Schools,” (read articles from all the towns in the Sun) many “Public Safety” issues which relate to “All Ages,” and the more “Peaceful Rural or Semi Rural Settings” that many of us worked diligently to be a part of. The arrogance of some of our state and local officials (refer to posting 14 BWG for one) will send most taxpayer’s to the “Poor House” and benefit the few without any regard of the harm it is to the many hard working people and their families or their well being. Whether it be “Health related” like the power plant or the “Quality of Life” one possess from living in a town style setting. Even Lowell as a small city is feeling and will feel more of the negative effects from all the issues we discuss.
A perfect example is the rejection of the Village Crossing Proposal by the Planning Board in Billerica for one, along with many other similar proposals shot down by many boards from all other surrounding towns. These local boards possess “common sense” relating to their communities, which can be read about constantly in the Lowell Sun, but instead of the town’s leadership supporting their decisions they are more concerned about the cost of litigation when the greedy developers appeal. The long term financial and safety affects need to be upheld with conviction and not backed away from any longer. The Power Plant Proposal is another. The private corporation who will run and own it claims town revenue to Billerica should be around 1.5 Million dollars. The question is, will it cost the town 3 Million dollars in revenue relating to the costs to its infrastructure. The main issue to all of us should be the health and environmental risks which will come with building the, “so-called power peaking plant” in an area with this size population around it, and the negative effect it will on our limited environmental resources from water to air pollution, ECT. Anyone who thinks that this is only going to end-up as a seldom used peaking plant (posting 9,30,36,43BWG) really needs to get a grip on reality! All the money in the world won’t do anyone any good if we are all dead!
Sorry for carrying on and I will end in saying, the time has come for all of us to ask questions of all the candidates running for office which this group intents on doing and don’t be shy about passing the web addresses on to others because all these issues must be addressed immediately. The worst thing anyone may say to you is “I am too busy” or “I don’t like to think about those things.” My best reply is, “what makes you think I have the time or like to think about it,” unfortunately we are not being left a choice. Keep in mind we can stand together now for the future of our area as one, or perish one by one as fools from the health and the taxation issues.
Ed
Did I mention the Power Plant Group hopes to begin construction this November!
