Strong feelings around the North Billerica power plant come as no
surprise to anyone aren't likely to subside, even after a recent
announcement that the scope of the project has been scaled back
nearly to its original specifications.
answers in an effort to understand how the presence of the plant
might affect them.
critical, especially in the face of intense emotions and beliefs
about what problems or benefits the power plant might bring.
whether one supports or opposes the plant, is to risk an uninformed
decision that might ignore vital factors.
some residents were automatically taking a stand against any
significant project, regardless of whether or not such a project
might help the town reach some of its goals.
taking a stand to determine whether the stance is founded in genuine
concerns. At the same time, if the process appears to move too
quickly, the perception could deepen the resistance of some critics
who may feel their input is being pushed to the side.
critical questions everyone should be asking. It's time for everyone
to examine the responsibility that businesses, residents, and
governing agencies on the town, state and federal level share for
balancing immediate needs with long-term goals for a healthy and
safe community.
