First welcome new members and there will be a meeting at BATV Tues. Night at 7:00PM:
Here is a piece I submitted to the Minuteman and the Lowell Sun over a week ago but they must have
decided it was not important enough to print. Also, our attorney is
polishing up our petition to rebut the power plant rebutal to our
petition to intervene at the state level to submit tomorrow before
the deadline. Quite frankly having to petition for approval to speak
about a devastating mistake about to destroy our "quality of life"
in the valley confuses me, when I read the State and U.S.
Constitutions but, I guess rules are rules! Anyway enjoy the reading
and comments are welcome on our site.
meetings to discuss the many concerns facing the Merrimack Valley,
and we have put our priorities in order. Meredith from the Toxic
Action Center mapped out an excellent campaign strategy for our
group to follow and did an excellent job, Thank You Meredith. The
Toxic Action Center has been in existence since 1987, and has aided
many neighborhood groups to fight all different types of toxic
pollutants. They are strong advocates to promoting a healthy vibrant
future for all of us, and for the future generations to come. The
Toxic Action Center people are not judgmental people or a fringe
group, and are just here helping us.
agree, to put this plant in the Merrimack Valley, is not a LONG-TERM
fix to the energy needs, and will be detrimental to the health of
all the inhabitants, and the environment of our valley. We are
losing 30% of the power that is generated through the infrastructure
of the "Power Grid," and we could save that power if the grid was
updated and repaired. Question: How many LONG-TERM jobs would be
created for the Labor Union members who took some of their personal
time to appear at the April 24th Power Plant meeting? The Members
need to consider their options wisely, because these plants
practically run themselves and produce little short term work and
almost no significant future employment.
have been paying into as consumers, so the consumer would have no
additional costs. Local Towns could also look into taking out long
term bonds, and there is money available for new technology if town
officials were willing to look into it to install wind and/or solar.
This in turn, would reduce the energy costs to run various
Departments in these towns of our Valley, and produce the savings to
pay off these bonds. Imagine a win-win situation for everyone's
pockets and health through a LONG-TERM fix.
more of our personal time and finances to promote awareness, because
too many of us have come to realize that many of the people who are
aware of this project are completely misinformed, and others are
still unaware!
Partnership LLP., are spending THEIR BUCKS, to prevent us from
having the right to address, the so-called experts and their so-
called expert studies with our serious concerns at the State Level!
All that our group would like to do is, ask these so-called experts
questions and require that more comprehensive studies be done to
insure the safety, health, and the environment of OUR AREA.
submitted a letter to Ian A. Bowles, Energy Facilities Siting Board,
on April 30th with these excerpts:
scrutiny. Therefore, we are calling for a comprehensive public
health and environmental study be conducted before any decisions are
made or any approvals granted." We ask that an appropriate
independent agency, or agencies, conduct this study and that such a
study investigate the aggregate effects of the emissions from the
natural gas or diesel, which the plant is proposing to burn, on the
immediate neighborhood, the distant neighborhoods, the Concord
River, and the surrounding air quality. We further ask that this
study examine the long term effects that the generation of the
specified quantity of electricity will have
on the surrounding neighborhoods."
fighting for our constitutional right to ask these questions, and to
protect your town and our Valley's best interests? Shouldn't You?
