MONTGOMERY ENERGY SELECTS BILLERICA POWER SUPPLIER, FINALIZES PROJECT
OUTPUT AT 348MW
5/24/2007-- Montgomery Energy Billerica Power Partners (MEBPP)
announced today that it has
selected Rolls Royce North America as the turbine equipment supplier
for the proposed gas-fired
peaking project in Billerica, Massachusetts. The final output of the
plant will be 348 megawatts
based on six Trent 60 gas turbines. The turbines are expected to
operate during periods of peak
electric demand, and are scheduled for commercial operation in May,
2009.
"We have selected the most efficient gas turbines available for a
modular, peaking project"
announced Richard Wagner on behalf of MEBPP," and this is consistent
with the state’s new
policy on greenhouse gas emissions and our effort to deploy best
available control technology."
The six turbine general arrangement is comparable to what had been
initially announced last
summer by project proponents.
"We’ve concluded the best fit for the project is the original six-
turbine plan. This plan and the
selection of the Trent 60 gas turbine will result in lower
emissions, reduced water
consumption, and fewer deliveries, while still providing safe, clean
power when it’s needed"
stated Wagner.
The Billerica Energy Center will provide needed peaking power
capacity to the Greater Lowell
Area as the demand for electric power continues to grow throughout
the region.
On April 10th the Engineer from the Research firm said he would not
have any problem having his family live next to this plant! Most of
the folks up at Town Hall were satisfied with the presentation. I
guess according to this release, the project did not meet the Air
Standards or Environmental Standards.
The water consumption was minimal at best.
No problem at all with deliveries.
does not mean this plant will not affect our health or environment
in the Valley.
not just the Greater Lowell Area!!!
use of “Combinatorics” (double counting) in this piece.
the plant was not up to standard of law before and why should any
reasonable thinking person trust what is being said now!
in!
can be stopped with your help.
