Posted by Ed on September 26, 2007, 9:43 pm Take time to read the Sept. 23 article, "Problems in Billerica? The The Home Depot plan, no matter what side of the issue you are on, The Billerica Energy Center power plant proposal is even worse. There I was personally involved in the removal of the "sand and gravel pit ED CAMPLESE The Billerica Watchers Group http://groups.yahoo.com/ group/BillericaWatchers/

manager wants to hear about them." Town Manager Longo brings up an
important point, but we should attempt to contact him about not
having any restrictions on any important town issues. The article
leaves me with the impression that he does not want these
neighborhood meetings to become a one or two-topic meeting. I agree,
but questions should be allowed addressing both the Home Depot plan
and the power plant in all areas of town.
will affect most of the residents in this town, and any residents
from neighboring towns who drive through or do their daily business
in Billerica. For example, I get gas, do my banking, use the services
in the mall, and use our group's Post Office in the center of town.
It is safe to say it is an issue that will cause me and many others
problems, not to mention the businesses located in the center of
town. Traffic issues will most likely cause myself and others to take
our affairs to other places or towns, because we do not have an extra
45 minutes to an hour to sit in traffic in the center, due to mall
traffic. If you don't think so, did anyone else notice the 400-plus
apartments that went up or are about to be opened, which will empty
out on to this section of roadway and turn the side roads of that
area into dangerous cut-throughs by frustrated commuters endangering
the families in that section of town?
will be air-quality issues along with other issues, for not just
Billerica residents; this senseless project will affect the whole
valley. For those who are not aware, there are two other plants
proposed in Lowell within about a 3-mile radius of the Billerica
plant. There is no price-tag you can put on your air quality, or on
your family's well-being, or anyone else's family.
for sewer construction," which was mentioned in this article. I
passed around pictures and held up 8-by-10 glossies for all to see.
Town officials do listen at these neighborhood meetings, which led me
to personally commend Mr. Longo and others for having them. Flooding,
street repairs, etc., do need equal time and should be respected, by
allowing time for them to be heard. Censoring the two main Issues for
many concerned citizens is not acceptable. If our town officials have
been paying attention, it should be perfectly clear that the
concerned citizens in our town have acted in a totally respectful
manner at all past hearings. Unless they are forced to respond to
people from other areas who come in to our town to promote these
projects, and leave our concerned citizens with no choice but to
respond.
