We, Judy and I, attended the meeting at the fire house in East Billerica to see what was being discussed. Town Manager Longo did a fine job bringing many town officials to the meeting. He correctly limited the discussions to no power plant and no Home Depot. I was surprised that we have so many more problems than these two issues. I did also find it interesting that we lacked funds to fix a sewerage pumping problem that has been ongoing for more than several years. What about submitting a budget that includes estimates to properly fix the problem for good?? I tend to be to simplistic. I also see the reason for the town officials to look for some way to reduce our financial problems. With regards to the power plant, they have convinced us that new revenues will fix that. The wool was pulled over our town manager's eyes about the purpose of the plant as a peaking unit. No town official has attended the siting board meeting in Boston where the proponents are testifying under oath. Without legal representation we are struggling to keep within the legal guidelines. Our manager would be surprised at the response from the proponents of the project. It saddens me and other residents that something of this magnitude is not kept in focus as we try to make sense of the power plant proposal.
With regards to the power plant...
The plant will run 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Do the math and you will see that 2340 is nearly what is proposed, 2300 hours. When ISO-NE demands energy they will provide it regardless of the fuel being used. I did the math to see how much money they would make and I must be wrong because it is in the vicinity of 65 million per year. I know I made a mistake somewhere.
