KEEP THOSE LETTERS GOING INTO THE EDITOR
We should thank the editor also for supplying an editor's note at the
end of this letter
The Billerica Watchers Group has been seeking Facts and Truth along
with additional relevant studies from the outset.
Still even at the state level all we have been hearing about is the
proponents minimal study results and subjective assurances that
everything will comply.
Has anyone ever heard of a power plant which will not be seen, heard,
and not pollute?
Has anyone heard of a power plant that will not produce a plume or an
insignificant change in air quality so relevant tests would not have
to be conducted for State Approvals?
Residents from Tewksbury, Chelmsford, and Lowell have now joined in,
but it will take much more involvement from all.
The Governor said, "No new Power Plants" But take no comfort in that
statement because there are many still in the on the list seeking
approval.
All can ask from our Governor is to be a man of his word and not
leave many citizens who would be more involved in the opposition of
these projects with a false impression.

Article Last Updated: 11/20/2007 11:32:17 AM EST
I find it ineresting that the CEO of the proposed power plant in
Billerica felt the need to write a letter in support of the plant he
wants to build. I can't give the contents of the letter much credence
since he stands to gain from this venture. I wonder, has any Sun
reporter looked into the facts? Has any Sun reporter looked at
independent reports on the impact this plant will have on the
environment and residents?
I suggest someone look into the facts, and print them for all to see.
I also suggest that all residents in the area (that includes Lowell,
because you might get one of these plants in your backyard) think
about what it would be like to live next to a plant that pollutes not
only the air but the water supply as well. And yes, the plant will
pollute, even though Mr. Joseph Fitzpatrick would want you to believe
otherwise.
I also suggest we all take a step back and think about what we are
doing to our planet.
The scientific evidence suggests that we are headed for climate
change, and it could come quickly, and it could be extreme. Not
everyone agrees how quickly and to what extent we will be affected,
but to my mind, gambling with our home is foolish.
Doesn't it make more sense to produce honestly clean energy? Don't we
all want this home of ours to last for our children's children and
beyond? Or do we want to be the generation that didn't do what was
necessary to keep our environment clean and habitable?
It's a difficult problem but I know my answer. I'm tough. I can live
with tough decisions that may not be easy, but will benefit everyone
in the long run.

Editor's note: DG Clean Power, the company proposing to build the
natural-gas power plant, is presently going before several state
agencies in an effort to win site approval and the necessary permits.
The process includes an environmental-impact review. No independent
environmental reports have been conducted to date on the Billerica
site. First Watch, a local opposition group, has cited environmental
impact reports concerning coal-fired plants in other communities. The
Sun has covered this proposed project extensively and will continue
to do so in the future.
