Went out with Mitch, Freddie and Howard on Friday morning. They brought six curs all under 2 years old. Most were BMCs, Mitch brought his San Jacinto hog dog Joe. The only bulldog was Pety II aka Pete son of Scarlet. .Mitch dropped us off and went back to get his four wheeler and Joe. We went on ahead. By the time Mitch got back the dogs had taken off. We alittle after that heard barking but it stopped soon after. Mitch felt the hog broke the bay. Not long after that we heard Smokey and Bonnie open up, we rode the four wheelers over. As we got closer the dogs stopped barking but we could hear the fight. I ran over by Pete and waited for Mitch’s word. He told my buddy Freddy to go secure the hog as the curs had all latched on already. Freddie didn’t want any of it. He then asked me, as I got there the curs had a leg each but the hog was still somewhat mobile. I told Mitch we should bring the bulldog up and secure the head. Mitch said no time and dove over the hog and pulled it down. He explained how to tie a hog as I walked up with the camera. I carried the tied hog back to the four wheeler. Looked to be about 80 lbs. After getting the hog on we heard Joe open up. He’d run off on his own since the other dogs had left before he met up with us. The other dogs took off toward Joe when they heard him. They stayed bayed this time and didn’t grab on. Mitch said get the bulldog so I grabbed pete and went towards the bay. Pete was pulling toward the bay even tho he didn’t know what it was. They were bayed up in a dried Creek bed under a log that went across. I was on a side where I couldn’t see the hog clearly and since this was Pete’s 1st hunt I didn’t was to send him in until he could see what we were cutting him into. Mitch asked me to pass him over cuz he had a good view. He took pete to the edge of the bed and you saw him zero in on something to the underside of the log. Had to be the hog since the baydogs were moving around on the outside. Mitch let him go and he dove off the ledge, split sec later the squealing started. I jumped down in there to see Pete biting hard and shaking deep. I grabbed the hog’s legs and hauled the hog with seven dogs attached out of the creek bed. I had to let one leg go in order to pull myself out. Freddie was standing there gawking, he was supposed to be taking pictures : ![]()
He helped me pulled the hog a lil further when I stalled abit from all the extra weight. We had trouble breaking Pete off, but once we did I pulled him back toward the 4 wheeler where Howard was waiting. Caught a 75 lb Sow. Two hogs in two hours. We asked a lot of pete. We’d had just picked him up from Tina’s couple days earlier and he didnt remember me from when he was here. She wasn’t there to introduce us yet he came with us and allowed me to toss him up on a four wheeler also a 1st for him, ride on a flat bed behind a pick up and 40 miles an hour while on the four wheeler, and be asked to catch all after just getting his tail docked one week prior which wasn’t fully healed. He adjusted well and I’m happy to have one of my boys here.
