Each breath comes out shorter than the last, your heart roars in your ears. The announcer describes the animal that you are about to test fate with. You look at this tawny bull; his taunt muscles lay beneath his sleek hide. The cruel words of this bull’s thoughts creep into your mind, "You’ll never be able to ride the full 8 seconds," "I’m gunna grind your body into that arena dust to the sound of your fans’ screams."

Your name is announced. Setting one knee on the ground you say a quick prayer to God to keep you safe from this beast. Climbing to your feet, you gaze towards the crowd; each one of them is holding their breath, knowing full well the dangers of the sport they are watching. As you look to the back of this bull, fear grips you from the inside. Fighting this fear, you crawl over the side of the chute and onto the back of the bull. Shoving your hand into your bull rope you pull, tighten, and punch the rope until it’s tight. You sit forward and look down at your hand; with a simple nod of your head, they open the gate into the arena. You both know its time. He takes a leap, throwing his weight in every direction possible. You’re losing your grip. You’re done for.
