Month 1, Day 23, 23 AM
Has it been nearly three turns since we lost our last experienced bronze? As much as I grieve for Honilo's Politeth, it is because he died that I am able to relish this chance as Weyrleader. While Kiyemith may have chosen Brown Mistryth and O'elis, she is dead - and her strange colored daughter has Risen, Laid, and had a Hatching. She is able to order around the other dragons, so despite her black hide, she is a queen... and I am Weyrleader. Ronilerth did well for us both. It matters not that there were even more strange colors this clutch than last - they are healthy dragons.
I have the Weyr in my hands. Finally, I can mold it as I wish. That there are now two young bronzes is a tad worrying. And the Black Queen's rider remains in the coma she went into on Hatching Day. The Healers would probably have killed her by now if she was not Impressed to the Queen. But I will not allow that - especially not now. She is six months pregnant - and as she was in a coma, it must be a Flight child. My child. Her being in a coma worries me. She and the child could be in danger if she does not awaken.
The first clutch - the clutch Black Tavarith was born in - does well. They have settled into their duties and fought well when we were attacked by a giant sea monster. It murdered Koveth and her C'tar... we can't afford to lose any rider. Someone has to reconnect Pern together. I fully intend that to be the dragonriders. Even when Thread was gone the Holds and Halls looked to the riders for many things - they should look to us again for their safety.
Most worrying is the rumors Honilo brought back with him when he appeared on shore, and the appearance of these new creatures - the Lycoris. Honilo brings rumors of sea people, able to steal human legs to walk on land and with few morals of their own. I had little faith in these rumors - but the appearance of the Lycoris makes me wonder. If one new sub-human race can show up, why not another? The Lycoris are... Well it depends on your point of view. Some say they are dogs pretending to be people, others would say they are people that have a few bits of canine mixed in. They often have traits of canines about them, though they usually walk on two feet... but they can transform into very large canines on their own.
New creatures keep appearing. New animals, new sentient species - a dragon-sized three-headed dog has decided that the Bowl is his home. We have palm-sized flying felines buzzing around the flowers. Giant monsters in the sea, small lizard-birds being sold as pets. Pern is changing around us - and we the riders must grasp at these changes and use them. I have a child on the way - it is time I did something about this world so she can grow up in one where riders are in their proper place - with Hold and Hall depending on us.
