painting with henna

hi, i recently went on a holiday to north africa where i had a henna tattoo done which looked great. the henna was a dark inky consistancy and was pained on with small brushes of different thicknesses. i wanted to have a go myself so i bought some mehindi powder and mehindi oil from the internet which seems good quality (from what i have read on internet sites). I think i would find it much easier to paint the henna on rather than use a cone but i havent come accross any websites that recomend using brushes to apply the henna to the skin? is it common? and will it work with the stuff i have? or will the henna have to be mixed differently? thanks
