I am jumping in here until Jessica does.
Painting with henna can be done, but to make the henna thin enough to use with a brush means you are diluting it.
Perhaps the product you had applied in Africa also had dye added to make the stain . This is not a good idea, PPD is bad for you.
The jaquard applicator bottles work very well and are so easy to use since the feel is more like drawing with a pencil.
Why not try that method?
