Kamlon will go Amok and be killed by the Philippine army and possibly the whole problem of Jolo Island will come to an end. Going Amok means to kill and kill until he himself is killed and originated with the Holy Wars against Christians. In 1899 the new American rulers of the Philippines relieved the small Spanish garrison on Jolo Island and invented a "policy of attraction" in the hope of subduing the island peacefully. One of the concessions was the acceptance of slavery. Much later, as a token of gratitude to the Americans for their tolerance of Jolo customs, the late wife of the present Sultan made a gesture at abolishing the practice. Instead of the five hundred slaves at her command, she kept only five maids for her bath and five others to sleep at her side by night.
