Bring back the League of Women Voters as the medium for the debates and select Public Television as the media for the debates. Las Vegas was way more than the vacuity of the questions and the bland, shallow responses.
There is the rolling banner that appeared on the bottom of the screen. That is way more.
There is the banishment of Dennis Kucinich. That is way more.
Assume that there were 60 minutes of debate "on the air" and that those 3600 seconds were filled with four banner frames of 5 seconds each. There were no other items of news or sport scores in any frames at any time nor was there a time when the Republican results from Michigan were not on the screen. At least not that I saw. The 5 second banner frame flashing Mitt Romney's name, Michigan vote percentage (39) and oversized, flashing, red check mark appeared for 900 seconds. So Romney's name was imprinted in the mind of the viewer for 15 minutes over the course of the debate. The remaining 2700 seconds were shared by uncommitted and 5 Republican candidates. Romney's frame was shared by McCain. McCain did not have an oversized red check attached to his name. But, hey he got his 15 minutes.
Does a global corporation such as GE have an interest in the "CEO" candidate Mitt Romney's success? Don't know but it would certainly not be surprising. PBS may not be quite so invested in Republican exposure during a Democratic debate. The League of Women Voters may decide starting the debate with six questions on racial issues is not likely to elicit a thoughtful 60 minutes.
It just does not seem right for Fred Thompson (4%), Rudy Giuliani (3%), Uncommitted (2%) and Duncan Hunter to each have their names flashed on the screen right below the seated Democratic candidates for a total of 15 minutes each.
And the most thoughtful candidate of either party is turned away by the global corporation. Dennis Kucinich (4%) did not get fair treatment and the corporate domination of our democratic process is seen both in their near subliminal gimmick and their contemptuous treatment of the honorable candidate, Representative Kucinich (D-Ohio).
Shame on MSNBC & Shame on NBC. Brian & Tim, you are shills.
