The thing to keep in mind is that the committees putting together the exam are working on this in December and January with the aim to have a finished product by March or April so that the other committees can review their proposal. So, it is reasonable to assume that the feedback we've received about the 12/31 cutoff date for new material is an appropriate one. For certain, anything seen after March is highly unlikely to be seen.
Also, recall that the College is looking for questions to have more than one reference. So, a single case report, though interesting clinically, should not carry the same weight as a journal article outlining new diagnostics of an emerging disease (e.g. MPV or MNV) - those would be more likely to generate questions.
