Text: Gen. 3.1-7
Old Satan appears on the scene of history and begins to create havoc with mankind. He is a serpent that deceives. (2 Cor. 11.1-3) He is a liar and a murderer. (Jno. 8.44) He questioned God’s Word and God’s goodness. (Gen. 3.1) He denied God’s warning (Gen. 3.4), and then substituted a lie for God’s truth. (Gen. 3.5) “You will be like God” is his master lie (Isa. 14.12-14; Rom. 1.21-25), and people still believe it, today.
God tests us to bring out the best in us, but Satan tempts us to bring out the worst in us. (Jas. 1.1-15) Satan “baits the hook” with what seems good and we take the bait and end up doing something bad. We can overcome the tempter by having a strong faith and putting on the “whole armor of God” (Eph. 6.10) and by trusting God to provide the “way of escape”. (1 Cor. 10.13)
Watch out, Lobos, the old devil goes about “as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Pet. 5.8). But he is also a “deceiver”. (Rev. 12.9) And he is the “father of lies”. (Jno. 8.44)
But, here’s the good news! He will be bound. (Mk. 3.27) He will be cast out. (Jno. 12.31) He will be judged. (Jno. 16.11) He will be bruised. Rom. 16.20) And he will be assigned to hell. (Mt. 25.41)
So, Lobos, when it comes our time to quit the walks of men, we can say with the apostle Paul: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?...No, in all of these things we are more that conquerors through him who loved us. (Rom. 8.31-37)
Hang on, Curtis is on a roll! “O death where is thy victory? O death where is thy sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor. 15.55-57)
Yea, Lobos! We have victory over old Satan through Jesus!
“O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him,
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.”-Bartlett
Y’all read ‘em, now, ye hear?! Thank you. -ci
