Amid the awfulness of war love often blossoms in heightened sweetness. Such was particularly true for World War II when the strains of the big bands of the day provided romantic backgrounds for urgent, if often fleeting, love affairs.
This space is offered as a forum for love in the midst of war: its urgency and intensity; its often short span; its obsessions; and its haunting presence as time passes. We welcome your own love stories or those of your parents, grandparents or others. Or, do you have a favorite WW II era novel, other literary work, or movie? If so, please note it here. Is there a greater diversion than a good love story from the perils of the present?
The board is sponsored by Allan Wilford Howerton's World War II Era books on love and war. Dear Captain, et al.: the Agonies and the Ecstasies of War and Memory (click here), and War's Wake (click here)

This board is dedicated to the memory of Mary (Marijane) Marcino of Elizabeth, New Jersey and Harriett Gleason of Denver, Colorado who fueled the love stories of "Dear Captain, et al." and "War's Wake." They lit up my life.
