Posted by hennamuse Its a hard one though. I'm going to have to over-share... The best henna experience I ever had was my first bride in Fort Wayne after I moved here. You must understand that Fort Wayne is oppressively Christian and I had been feeling rather lost and suffocated. When I did the bride, she introduced me to everyone who came into the room. I had to take my six year old daughter with me because the sitter spaced on me. I was worried about it appearing unprofessional, but the Aunties scooped her up and doted on her while I woked. This was the first wedding of the generation and it seems all the women were starved for a baby! She, and the rest of her family were so warm and welcoming. At the Sangeet I was greeted like an old friend. The Aunties were impressed with my work and flattered that I offered them and brides maids "cuts" in line. The cousins seemed to find it fascinating rather than silly that the white-girl was doing the mehndi. I was well fed and invited to stay for the dancing when I was done. I don't think this wonderful family will ever realize that their warmth made me feel at home for the first time in my new city! As for my favorite piece, well, I've done precisely two that I'm truly proud of. We all tend to be our own harshest critic you know. This one is taken almost line for line from Love Mehndi. I didn't think I'd be able to pull it off. Kiran's style has such a graceful flow that isn't my strongest point. I've learned SO much from that book! The other is a Moroccan design based on what I learned from Ildiko in Vegas. I was terribly afraid of North African styles until then. Where's your story or photos Beth?!? Jen --Previous Message--
