Posted by MagicalMehendi Now here's where my crankiness set in...there wasn't room in the house to do mehendi, unless I was going to sit on the floor hunched over for 5 hours. They wouldn't let me use the dining room, or the living room, and the family room had 20 people in it who would be dancing. So out to the garage I go. There's really not enough room there either, but after much hemming and hawing I cleaned off a food filthy table and went to work. All during this time I kept reiterating that I have a second artist coming and we need room for 4, let's make that room NOW so we don't have to try to find it later. Wandering guests are another problem. They come out and say "i'm after so and so" and then wander off. I can't and won't, come get you. People are already in line, waiting, and kvetching how long it's taking. We are working as fast as we can and doing both hands and occasionally both sides of both hands. I had been told that here would be 10-15, or 20 people to mehendi. I was going to bring an extra person so it went quicker and we could go home early. Easily there were over 40 people wanting mehendi on both hands. This is probably the hugest problem and biggest peeve (along w/ not starting on time). I don't want to complain or look a gift horse in the mouth...but there were many frustrating times last night. Several times I just wanted to throw my hands in the air and cry. This is not benefical to nice mehendi.

the mehendi night yesterday was definately a challenge. the bride's mehendi that I had done 2 nights before (forgot camera last night ) turned out crisp and very dark. no pictures...damn damn damn. That would be pet peeve #1.
as I got there last night everyone was huddled around the brides new BMW (present from parents). It was pouring rain most of the day and the outdoor tents were just not sufficient to do mehendi under...actually some guests were getting drenched and obviously the mehendi wasn't going to dry plus my feet were getting wet....that's my pet peeve #2.
Well after 45 minutes the caterers started cooking and we had to move again. I was visibly upset by this. How can you KNOW you have 2 mehendiwalli's coming and not provide adequate space? So 2 tv trays were brought out for us to work on.
Pet peeve #3
After an hour hunched over that little tabhle(pp#4), my back was getting very sore and my patience absolutely gone. I had poured myself something to drink (and Sarah too) and put it on the table behind us and someone came by and cleared everything off that table (for no reason)...big pet peeve #5, cuz I'm a sipper and like to have a drink to nurse.
The tales people tell to get their mehendi done first. One woman told me she had to be done first because she had to feed her child soon, but then proceeded on getting her palms done which put her out of doing anything for the rest of the night. Or the woman who lives back east in what I believe is a tourist area, telling me that no one does this there so she must have both hands done. I mean, come on....really, am I that gullible....lol.
ahh I think I'll go back to be for a bit now
