As most of you know I have been raising chickens for eggs only and have used Omega 3 for my hens. They are big and fluffy and very healthy. They are producing lots of big rich eggs. These eggs are fed to my dogs and me and some of my friends buy the excess of which there is much. This has been a fun project and while it has not been done for income the hens have earned a few dollars and their money will be used in the Springtime to enlarge their grazing area and buy them some red worms. These worms will be in the raised garden beds to enhance the soil and will also be fed to the chickens as they earned them.
The interesting thing about this project is now one of my close friends in Texas is now going to do the same thing. She has ordered her chicks and is now in the process of building a coop/yard for them.
The cost of eggs in the stores is climbing almost every day. These eggs are storage eggs and are not fresh. They cost a lot and are usable but the difference between a fresh egg and a cold storage egg is major.
We tend to overlook the value of the egg. It is an almost perfect food.
There are no animals that are not important including the lowly chicken. We fancy ourselves as being at the top of the food chain but I have to wonder as we offer nothing of value to the system. We are predators and therefore claim the prize but the lowly chicken produces an egg that sustains life.
