One Christmas Eve, Dalton and Dee Barton, a Starkville native and a member of the Kenton band that played, drums and bass and also arranged for them, were visiting in Forest.
Dalton called me wanting to borrow a trap set for an informal jam session. They met me at the old band hall, selected the needed percussion equipment and left with it. A short time later as I was leaving, all of that equipment was found sitting in the edge of the street.
Thinking that perhaps they had changed their minds and not knowing how to contact them, I returned it to the band hall.
The following morning, bright and early, I received a telephone call from Dalton advising that they had "lost" that equipment. I let him go for a time before informing him that the equipment was safe and no damage was done.
In retrospect, I surmised that they had started their Christmas celebration early and taken the equipment outside and forgot to put in the trunk of their vehicle.
