The chimes being played from the Methodist Church and heard all over town.
The horn or whatever it was that was blown at noon and quitting time at the lumber mills. (Scoot and Steve you might be too young to remember that)
The train. I could hear it start softly from the distance from either the east or the west and follow the sound until it decayed on the opposite side. I seem to remember being able to hear the very early trains stop somewhere (near the bridge???) and get reloaded with coal. That made a distinct sound that could scare a little girl. Or did I dream that??
This week (Friday I think??) Forest will have its Christmas Parade. Before I was in band and marching in the parade myself, I remember the Christmas Carols being sung by the different church choirs. The singers were in the backs of pick up trucks. One in particular that I remember to this day is the Baptist Youth Choir. Beth Grey Chaney, my classmate, was singing The First Noel as their "truck" turned the corner by the drugstore onto So Main. It sounded like angels. Beth had a lovely, soft voice. In recent years, I have told Beth that I can still hear her singing on the back of that truck.
Do you remember the Air Raid drills?
