"Hoot" was our basketball coach our senior season. He taught Trig (?) also...made all of us learn how to use a slide rule (younger readers, find someone in their 60's and ask them what that is). I think he was dating Josie at the time and he never referred to her by her real name....he called her something like Priscilla Goodheart. Drove around in that big silver Olds Toronado.
I hope Hoot still has his great sense of humor...once he said to me as he watched me shoot a jump shot: "Loper, when you jump, we can just slide a pizza between your shoes and the floor....but only if it's a cheese pizza with no toppings." I also got a letter from him when I got in the Business School Hall of Fame at MSU: the letter congratulated me on getting in, said he was sure my parents were proud, and that he'd like to think he played some small part in my success. He closed with "P.S.: Thank goodness dribbling was not a pre-requisite for getting in this hall of fame."
We were blessed with some good people as teachers and coaches and band leaders, etc., at FHS. I hope Hoot is surrounded by family and friends right now.
