1. Going electronic has hit a nerve. Most responders are also the same people who use this Message Board often and have no problem being in the 'Modern Age.' However, it seems that some are afraid of change which, in itself, is a natural human reaction. We, as the Membership, need to help alter those opposed to the changes, to a positive side, without scaring them away, and also provide for those few who haven't the means or ability to participate in this 'electronic' era.
2. The Club's viability and continued success should come FIRST. With that, comes the responsibility of ALL its Members to contribute whenever possible, including, adapting to changes. We are all a part of this Membership because we collect, buy, sell, & trade Cartoon & Promotional Drinking Glasses...the very basis of the Club's founding. We have all participated and along the way, made some real friendships, acquired glasses, and generally had a good time doing it. So, if some changes are in order, that will help ensure the Club's continued success well into the future, then so be it. That being said, should place the Club's needs ahead of individual needs.
3. In my opinion, every Member should be pitching the Club to prospective Members, in some capacity or another, at every available opportunity. Especially those who sell online, wether it be on eBay or someplace else. (Online sales in this country number in the BILLIONS of dollars now!) In every one of my listings you'll find a statement in regards to being a 'Proud Member' of this Club, along with the Club's web address. I also include a Club business card with every order that I ship. Just a couple of ways to promote and encourage my clients to join us. I haven't had any objection from eBay about promoting the Club.
Bob LaSalle has some great ideas; Brent has the right timeline. Let's use their ideas and get this done - as a Membership. There is no time to waste as the Club's finances have dwindled significantly, in recent months, as was reported and discussed at the May Meeting.
I don't normally offer such strong opinions (although I'm full of them!) but, I am just what my statement on eBay says - a 'Proud Member' who wants this enterprise to do well and flourish. I thought it was time to act on the same advice and opinions that I've offered here.
