Awake in bed around 6:30,I get up by 7:00,suddenly I heard what sounded like shotguns going off,
Or maybe a motorcycle with a bad muffler ? BOOM BOOM BOOM CRACK CRACKLE CRACK !!! From my neighbors back yard ?
I'm up & out to the back yard - BOOM BOOM BOOM again & I see bright flashes between the privacy fence board spaces to the next door yard.
I hoist myself up a few inches on the fence & see that there's a high wire cable twisting around between his fence & a WET tree trunk...220 Volts.throwing sparks & making the BOOM sounds like instant thunder.
But where's the other end ? Yep in my back yard an end coiled up on my lawn. But no movement !
As I approached it barefoot I suddenly felt a little tingle up my legs !! Oh BOY it's hot too.
But our lights have not gone out.
After making the appropriate calls the Oncor trucks show up. Oncor is in charge of maintaining electric service wiring .
Within minutes they've cut off service & tell me they will trim some tree limbs & reconnect wires & we'll have our power back soon.
I've let the man in charge come through my front side gate & out the back gate to see the wire poles - along a cemented dry wash behind our houses.
Question ! Where will they drag all those cut down tree limbs ? He says " not his problem.they cut & leave them where they drop ".
I say " OK, then your not trimming from in MY backyard - drop them on the outside of my fence in the dry wash.
He says " We can't do that, the city will fine them. They must now pile them on a front lawn."
I said " then drag them up the ditch ( about 450 ft. ) to the end of the ditch," ( It goes under a road ). He said" What - that's more than twice the distance to your front street ".
I said " OK take them thru my yard gates CAREFULLY BUT you must pile them along the STREET,where the city can then pick them up,not on my lawn."
They did - I called the city - the truck just came - all the limbs are gone & I cleaned up the litter leftover.
YAWN !
