If you are talking about a government official performing a ceremony... a civilian, I'd have to agree with you..regardless of what their personal feelings are, they must comply with giving a license or performing a wedding. However, if you are talking about a priest, minister or rabbi or representative of any other religion that finds it objectionable, they cannot be compelled to perform something that they do not find acceptable. There are numerous ways of having a legal marriage ceremony performed and any attempt to force someone to take part in a service that goes against their beliefs is not acceptable. It is not a gesture of people seeking their equal rights in my opinion but rather an attempt to break the mold.
