My baseball memory goes back to 1949 when Dad took me to a Friday night game at Ebbets Field and I was smitten with Dodger blue.
In 1958 the Dodgers went west all the way to L.A. and I forgot baseball until a few years later when the Mets were created. Watching the earliest Mets trying to play baseball at the ancient Polo Grounds and then brand new Shea Stadium meant rebirth and many happy days and nights for me. We left New York and the Mets in 1970 and my interest in baseball lessened.
But tonight the two teams I grew up with, the two teams who meant so much to me, are playing each other and therein lies the quandary: who to root for. There's really no perfect answer here. Perhaps I'll just watch with a Floridian's detachment. May the better team win.
