What they put in his eye is a permanent lens, almost like a contact lens in place of what they removed. If paid for by Medicare, it is a mono lens (only one correction), if it's costing you out of pocket, it would be more like a bi-focal lens. Generally, my optometrist recommends the mono-lens anyway because it's easier to correct with glasses if they are still needed. My vision is 20-25 now and I don't need glasses anymore except when reading very small print.
