I love history, and there is much Spanish/Mexican history here. But it's been 175 years. The Californios that were here then are still here, they are not the illegals that are flooding the country.
Bob owned an acre by the sea down in Orange County that was part of the San Juan Capistrano Mission lands. After that it belonged to an old Spanish family related to the Sepulvedas (that is a big name here). I researched the land because it was so romantic, it was still pristine and untouched when Bob bought it, a bamboo jungle by the sea. I wrote the story of the land and its people and submitted it to the Writers Contest in 2014. My story won again. It will be published in the Fall issue that is coming out any day. So I'm very much aware of the Spanish/Mexican connection. But that doesn't mean that 175 years later anyone else has claim to the land but the good old USA.
