oops. forgot a few...
1. Memorize the following equation:
Road construction on mountain passes + pilot car + 1800 radiator = Coolant puke on boots.
No seriously... this happened to me a few years back going up Wolf Creek Pass. I was with a group of 1800's following a pilot car up the mountain and the temp gauge red-lined. I had to pull over. i think you can see the obvious problem: you can only proceed after the pilot car brings the on coming cars back and returns in your direction. The problem you can't see in this senario is that the roads have little to no shoulder, and they are usually filled with gravel for construction purposes. the result is that you sink a few inches after you pull over.
Better wear your Depends.
2. Aggressive drivers and tailgaters. When I first moved here from Kansas i thought it was odd that there were signs asking drivers to report aggressive behavior. Now that I've been here I can see why those signs are posted. Don't know what it is about Colorado drivers, but they are can be real Pricks. Maybe it's a sense of entitlement that results from their delusions of being smarter that the rest of Americans by choosing to live in such a gorgeous place. My wife and I have theories, but they are just that: theories.
3. Food (specifically BBQ). Barely edible, but it always tastes better in the mountains. In the end the two cancel each other out. In most parts of the country you can find a really good place stuck in a strip mall. You know, a hole in the wall. My experience has been that the Colorado version is pretty much just that: A hole in the wall.
3a. Colorado style pizza. Just don't do it. (I wish I could describe it, but it's early in the morning and I'm always a little queasy before breakfast)
3b. Denver Omelets. Best served with a side of Tums.
4. Ward, Colorado. Nexus of weird. Watch out for the guy with the head wound and a bandage wrapped around his head. I think he's the Mayor.
I'll post more, if I think of any.
