Let's dispell this rumor once and for all. You aren't "closer to the sun" at altitude. It's true you have much less atmosphere between you and space, but the distance to the sun isn't a factor.
The Earth's orbit is slightly out-of-round. In January, Earth is (roughly) 147.1 million miles from the sun and in July it is 152.1 million km from the sun.
The difference is about 5 million miles... so that 10,000 foot elevation has no affect. However, it is all about the lack of atmosphere, so the rest of the comments (such as sunscreen) are quite valid.
