Well, guys it was GREAT getting to know Millsap better after 3 days at CHRR. I got to know more about SWJFA and how it got started. I don't know how he does it, running SWJFA, racing a JF dragster, running a good Rod Shop, and raising a daughter.
And then on top of that getting to know Johnnie and Susan Laird was also great. Talk about commitment, they towed all the way from Ardmore "to be part of CHRR". And they were'nt the only ones there from Ardmore.Johnnie said he wanted to race Bakerfield at least once in his life. Well, he did and ran better than ever. Johnnie ran a 7.92 and 7.93 with the most water in the air I have ever seen at Bakersfield, 80 grains of water @ 88°. Also keep in mind Johnnie just turned 69 years old. It's too bad he chose this year to try and qualify, because we had 11 Jr Fuel cars show-up this year and it took a 7.47 to qualify. But Susan and Johnnie said it was a "scrap-book" time for them. So this was the 1'st time more than Ricky Marshall was out here from SWJFA.As you guy no-doubt heard, Hammer/Hansen won the 2009 Heritage Championship,so when our team was in the winner circle for pictures, I invited Susan, Johnnie and Mike to join us.
If you'd like to check-out pictures from CHRR and of course our winners circle pix log-on-to http://public.fotki.com1320sherlock/18th-cal-hot-rod-re/
James Drew always takes great pictures of dragracing on the west coast. Check-out Mike in a Lucas team shirt while he was helping out the Dean Carter's team.Once you log-on click on 18th Hod Rod Reunion,click-on winners circle pictures,& also scroll down to JrFuel volume 1 and 2 for pix. James has got photos going back to 2001 Hot Rod Reunion. Just set some time aside to check-out 8 years of good old Drag Racing out west.
