What a race we had! Looked like time had just stood still for the past 40 or 50 years. Top Fuel FED's, a bunch of OFAA AA/Fuel Altereds, fuel funny cars, lots of unblown fuel altereds, and a super hot eight car field of B/ Fuel Dragsters. What's not to love about a race like that?
Ricky Marshall made it three straight for '09. Some of you guys are probably glad he doesn't get that car out any more often than he does.
The eight car field included Marshall, Mike Millsap, Mallory-Brady-Fields, Steve 'the alleged virgin' Dunkin (uh-huh), Rick Huckabee, and Odie Coker driving that awesome hemi Jr Fueler for Ron Ussery. The field also included Rob Ragland, who runs the Ardmore drag strip, and Tim Brown, a Texas Timing Association regular from years gone by.
It was hot competition. Odie, with his esteemed Jr Fuel legend father Donald Ray and SWJFA contender uncle Terry watching, scared everybody to death with the booming sound of his Hemi motor.
But he and everybody else went down before the super quick runs of Mike Millsap and Ricky Marshall. In the final, Marshall won all the marbles.
What a race! Thanks to SWJFA for helping the Texas Timing Association in their efforts to re-establish the Texas State Championship as the premier race of the year in Texas. If you missed all the excitement this year, you oughta try to get it on your schedule in 2010.
