I have not tried it but I can tell you that some Moraeas (which might have been merged with Dietes) are hardy. They look less exotic though, more like a plain old Iris. I had Moraea alticola for many years in zn 7, and another one for a few years too, can't quite remember maybe Moraea huttonii. David
