My point is not to argue that three runs were the best approach there. He had good field position, so he could have at least tried to get in position for the field goal. My point is that MM didn't lose the game because he ran one timeout burning series late in the fourth quarter - many coaches do that, especially up 12 points with 5 minutes left. My point is that the previous series was also a conservative, predictable 3 and out series and that the combination of two series with little chance of doing anything shows how conservative he was.
Of course, the Packers defense/ST gave up two touchdowns, a two point conversion, an an onside kick in about 2 minutes and ten plays - after having given up only one score in the previous 55 minutes of game time. The Packers offense left the field up 12 and didn't see the field again until they were down 3. Accordingly, even if MM was conservative and predictable, the defensive/special teams meltdown was a huge disaster that was the bigger factor in losing the game.
