Any team that has a physical enough pass rusher might put them at DT for 3rd down.
Packers did it with DE Jenkins in the 4-3
Seahawks do it with DE Bennett
I believe the Giants often used it in their Super Bowl runs.
Also Datone said that is what he wants more of... to play penetrative DT... and with Vikings DT (I believe) Floyd career in question.. it's been said that Datone has practice at 3 tech.
Also the Packers needed them (Peppers and Datone) on 3rd downs because that's when they were giving Daniels breathers ...
I forget the stat numbers but NFL Network's statistician Cynthia Frelund was asked based on all the stats who was someone she thought was underrated and she answered Daniels because Daniels put up similar pass rush numbers as a number of others even though he wasn't used on 3rd downs or clear passing situations nearly as often. Meaning he got pressures and sacks when they were harder to get.
Which I have wondered if that's partly why they grabbed DT Adams... because he looks like he'd be a great fit for the 3rd down pass rush DT role once he adjusts to the NFL.
