Saw an interesting piece Sunday nAM on ESPN pregame regarding pre snap movement, and its use to help the QB to identify coverage. Rex Ryan said that he can not understand why 75% of the DC's allow the defense to do this. He said it is why he thinks the Vikes are so good, they are able not reveal what exact coverage they are in, pre snap. This seems to be a real weakness of our defense vs. the good QB's. They use motion to get us to "show our hand" & as a result know exactly where to go with the ball. Not knowing enough about it, I wonder if teams are unable to mask their intent because of personnel limitations. However, I still do not think the defense was that bad Sunday. We took away their top 2 threats but that left us vulnerable to the screen, mainly because Ryan & Martinez have trouble getting out to the perimeter. Offense did not help by only running 52? plays. Although the defense gave up 395 yards in total offense, they only surrendered 5.3 yards per play, which is really below the league average. Just had a hard time on third downs.
