You're proving my point that we're making positive assumptions on these guys. Wilkerson wasn't healthy and had down years... now we're assuming he's going to stay healthy and play up to his potential. Clark got sacks in only 3 games (out of 31), and we're assuming he's going to keep rising and be a pass rush threat.
My point is simply, I wonder/question are these assumptions correct? We would all love to say yes! But just because something happens (like Ty Monty averaging 5.9 yards per carry) doesn't mean it's automatically going to happen.
I think we all agree with you, that the writer way over played Hankins (and under played what the Packers currently got). I'm just suggesting that I think Hankins could a good back-up (especially back-up NT)... assuming he's willing to play hard at the back-up price. The Packers offered Ricky Jean Francois one year for $2 million... if the Packers got cap space, I would have no problem offering something like that to Hankinson (assuming he can ask like a professional).
As for teams passing over Hankin's, I think the large problem with that is that he overvalues himself. After he watching the Giants give the rest of the DL huge contracts, he assumed he was going to get one too... and to his credit, he or his agent did talk the Colts into one... though they bailed after a season.
