My thought is it goes to good or bad.
A good or flash play gives a player a pass on bad plays at other times.
And a Bad play labels a player as nothing faster and they are dismissed much quicker from there on out."
....and thus accounts for the difference in perception of offensive & defensive lineman. If one defensive lineman beats his man on one play he can make a play. He could lose on the next 10 plays but no one notices, especially if his teammates make plays. If an offensive lineman gets beat once, it can result in disaster & turn the entire game around. In addition, defensive lineman are rotated, where as o-lineman have to perform every play, thus they have more chances for error.
