1. Regarding picking a RB (any RB) that high: Although depth may be issue at RB presently, we have a clear #1 guy, who we know for sure is (at minimum) a solid, NFL-level starter, and will be here for at least a couple of years. There are positions on this roster where it is very questionable whether we even have a solid, NFL-level starter at all right now. I don't care for spending that high of a pick on 'future years' when we have gaping holes in the roster 'right now'. That (to me) would be like investing $5,000 in a 401K when your house has a leaking roof...
2. Regarding Brooks himself: More than once, I've heard the phrase "if he can stay healthy" attached to Brooks. I don't prefer spending that high of a pick (2nd round) on a guy who has that phrase attached to him before he even plays a down in the NFL. And I understand the concept of "without x injury, he would be a top 10 pick, therefore he's a bargain". But I just keep wondering: if a guy couldn't stay healthy in college, how in the h-e-double toothpicks can you expect him to stand up to the pounding of an NFL season (bigger guys, hitting you harder, plus 17 games vs. 10ish, etc.)...? Understand: if it was a lower pick, this 'quibble' would disappear for me...
