Kampman is the only one I've heard that wanted it down and they said no, and despite the unhappiness and media refusing to shut up about his sacks being down, his pressures were very much up and as a result INTs were up... which they gave credit to the DBs and trashed Kampman's sack numbers but really that was largely the QBs feeling the pressure and making a choice, take a sack or try to force one in and they chose try to force one in, and the DBs took advantage but that was based on the increase pass rush pressures.
As for this scheme, all schemes have their pluses and minus.
For returning players I think it's all positive as the players it'll be negative for were all let go.
This scheme calls for more pass rush, but it might also hurt the run defense which is where I'm mostly concerned with the new scheme.
But this scheme in theory could be a heavy blitz and they can run run blitzes to fill in an extra gap. And we just replaced Campbell whom was the more run defenser of the LBers.
This scheme in theory should be a bit easier on the CBs, but might be a bit harder on the Safeties, especially the FS, but we basically just replaced all the Safeties.
So yes absolutely, it'll be easier on the returning players, but it might be harder on the rookies than what the scheme that they're replacing.
It'll largely come down to the play calling, and execution as it's a high risk/high reward scheme, but I thought Joe Barry might of been a good weekly coordinator, but I thought he was an absolutely horrible in game play caller, just too often he was too late with adjustments, and I don't mean to bash him about that, as I would probably be the same way, not wanting to make a mistake so I keep everything the same until I'm sure. But that gives the other team an advantage and isn't good for a play caller. I admit, I'd be a horrible play caller.
