hola to all the fans and friends of latin female music,
i apologize for just now getting around to thanking everyone. it has been a very busy week and i had 5 different music events to co-ordinate including hiring band members, renting hotel rooms, finding dancers, and leasing sound equipment.
and there are plenty to thank so i don't know where to start. all those involved made the events a such a success.
the "latina lady entertainers society" held 2 events this week.
on monday the 21st we held the "latina ladies sing for the troops" @ cattleman's tejano explosion. our host who invited us to the event was margo morones.
an historic event being that we had 6 different latina ladies perform at a venue traditionally dominated by guys.the ladies came from mostly distant cities to do a complimentary performance for the troops. the lineup included:
linda escobar
the "first lady of conjunto music" who did a great job interpreting her fathers classic song perfect for the occasion "el veterano". linda also got the "latina ladies" a major plug at KEDA.
monica castro
came all the way from phoenix for her 3 song set and also provided an awesome poster for the event.
tina vega & promesa mortal
came from houston and volunteered to be house band and in one short week learned everybody's music and did an excellent job on bajo herself. thanks for all the xtra homework tina.
beatriz rojas
from el paso did a special dedication to her own husband currently stationed in iraq.
juan ramos sat in as a guest actor for one of beatriz's songs.
lil demi
did an excellent job as usual on one of her numbers.
jennifer marie
came from houston, despite a recent family tragedy, and performed a couple of her new releases.
on saturday the 26st we held the "latina ladies sing for screamfest" out at one of the oldest tex-mex hangouts in texas @ ruben's place in selma.
jesse camarillo was our host and not only had our 5 girls from the "latina ladies" but latin dancers, and 2 stages with all genres of music including country, metal, rock, etc. despite being a first year event, the small glitches were outweighed by hours and hours of music to satisfy any musical taste. a must see for next year's calendar
representing the latinas bellas who once again came mostly from a far to help represent the "latina ladies"
grissel
who drove all the way from phoenix to put on an exciting performance of some of her upcoming debut songs. a bit of great news is that grissel has decided to re-locate to s.a. so we expect to hear a lot more from her in the near future.
phoebe maire
from laredo who put on a classy and elegant show.
mayra bazan
drove in from corpus on short notice to do a great set.
little demi
did a marvelous performance even though there were technical difficulties, she was able to entertain the crowd through them. demi also did a great rendition of the "star spangled banner" on the spur of the moment
beatriz rojas
once again put on a great show with some of her self-penned songs.
megan leyva showed up to show her support for the fledgling organization for the "latina ladies".
ashley dixon, unfortunately had to cancel due the fact that she was finalizing details with a world contract to become the opening act for a major country music tour. way to go ashley.
