Bandmates injured in Emilio bus crash sue singer
The Associated Press
HOUSTON -- Two bandmates of Emilio Navaira are suing the Grammy-winning singer over injuries they suffered when the Tejano star crashed his tour bus.
The Houston Chronicle reported Monday that Daniel Sandoval and Pedro Ramirez are asking for unspecified damages. The lawsuit was filed against Emilio Inc., the singer's corporate identity, but does name Navaira himself.
Navaira had a blood alcohol level of 0.19, more than twice the legal limit for driving, when he crashed his bus on a freeway in suburban Houston in March.
The lawsuit states that Navaira was "intoxicated well beyond the legal limit to operate a vehicle."
The 45-year-old singer was severely injured in the crash and is still recovering at a Houston rehabilitation center. He won a Grammy for best Tejano album in 2003 with Acuerdate.
