As we know , Vista is a horrible disasterous product created by some gigantic idiotic company (you know who) which always give literally Hell to it's users. I understand you want to keep the warranty and it's better to have warranty on your side since you get free repairs.
Since Vista is so consuming in terms of memories and processing power (RAM , Hard disk CPU, processes), try to clean out temp folder (temporary folder) and make sure that you back whatever you want properly on some external device so to free your hard disk of space and any trouble if anything crashes. There are free file uploading online and you may try to find trustworthy , free and secure file upload communities to upload your files(non-personal data for security reasons) for storage.
Indeed as you have figured , 512 KB of RAM is barely enough to support the horribly designed Vista . adding 1 GB in would make it 1.5 GB RAM altogether and it would be more than enough, I hope. To properly check the status of your PC and it's model , right click on 'My Computer' and then select 'Properties' on the popup menu. A new frame should appear with some tabs and it would display your general PC properties and hardware specs.
CPU speed can greatly affect. In general, CPU speed is how fast the processor can process data. You would see the processor name and like Intel Pentium processor 1.75 GHz. 1.75 GHz is the speed of the processor.
I think one of the things we should really look into is to train the ability to manipulate electronical behaviours since it's a rather nifty trick in the electronical age. Hmmm... just a thought.
