I live in Toronto, but I've never gone there because it's a bit of a trip from where I live. Since you're shy, I'd suggest you go to the Toronto Pub Moot. Just google it to find their homepage. That way you can bring one or as many friends with you (witch or not) as you like, and you can either just sit at a table with your friends, or walk around and socialize with the other people. That's what I did. But the people I went with were all members of this forum, so every time we went to one, we ended up just talking to each other because it was so fun to meet so many people in real life, that you've been talking with on the forum for several months. The other thing you can do is google the temple, phone them and explain your situation and see what ideas they have for you.
