Firstly, your shields are not properly made and it is giving out energy signatures. Any energy working give out energy signatures by default since they vibrate on their frequency. Human's energy system picks up energy instinctively so I am not surprised that the danger of your parents instinctively picking up the enrgy is something not out of impossible and being attracted by the energy, walks in and there you are.. all the lights and candles and tarot.
So next time, fix your shield and make it in a way stealthy to not just humans but to spirits too. Imagine the shield and next as you create the shield, somehow feel the energy of the shield and kind of make it transparent and just will it and imagine that it's energy signature shift to match the general surrounding and the energy signature inside the circle is keep inside the circle.
If you are thinking of putting up some fanciful flaming shields and barriers, I think the more fanciful the barrier, the more you attract attention. Make it stealthy and unattractive. Sense the flow of energy and circumstances around the shield and somehow imagine and twist it using your intuition to blend make sure that no one would want to stumble into or even have the chance to even consider or the ooportunity to stumble in at all. In simple terms, use your intuition to sense the flow of circumstance and chances that another or more stumbling in deliberately or not , would be nullified and cancelled right away when it springs out.
The headache and side effects are just the back firing and collpasing of the energy and shield on yourself. Imagine if a glass collapse on you, you get hurt. Same thing. And since your parents are very happy , negative thoughts are unknowingly and insitinctively sent your way and adding more cuts upon the already existing cuts.
The best physical barrier against suspicion is simply not to light a candle or anything ritualistic and make it look normal. make sure you have some box or books or cloth to cover the cards very quickly when you hear foot steps. If you are afraid the reading would be messed when you cover, use a digital camera to snap a shot or two of the reading spread and when you are done with the digital images, make sure you delete them cleanly and not leave digital traces.
