Merry Meet!
I'm sorry to hear of the troubles that you are facing with fibromyalgia. My aunt was diagnosed with that a few years ago, so I understand the pain and frustration you face on a daily basis. Personally, I was in a pretty bad car accident over 10 years ago and I also face pain on a daily basis and I've been on hydrocodone in the past, too. It's been my experience that when on pain medications long term, your body adjusts to the narcotic and you are able to perform magick. You would know when you'd feel your best to do so, without having the overt grogginess or fuzziness from your meds.
Meditation can be difficult even without living in a constant state of pain. My best advice would be to keep at it, as best you can. Find a position that you are as comfortable as possible, it can be different each time, depending on your pain levels. Don't try to set a time goal, like "I'm going to meditate for 10 mins". If you are only able to do so for a minute or so, that's great. Eventually, you'll be able to train your mind to go longer. If you are still having difficulties, try recording or buying a CD with guided meditations. I have found that these are great, kind of like training wheels for meditating, lol.
I'm not familiar enough with herbs to give any advice to you but if there is a local health food store or naturalist store near you, check it out. There should be a knowledgeable herbalist there. You don't need to "come out of the broom closet" to do this. Many people are turning to herbals and they aren't Pagan by any stretch of the imagination. You can use color therapy/visualization to aid in pain management. I have found that greens and blues are helpful in keeping my pain levels to a tolerable level. I have been pain med free for about 6 yrs now. I will occasionally use lidocaine patches or Advil on really bad days, but I haven't needed narcotics to control my pain for a long while. Grant it, my pain is localized, unlike fibromyalgia, but visualization certainly won't exacerbate your pain.
I wish you well and I hope that the Mother Goddess will bless you and guide you to a satisfactory solution.
Blessed Be!
Nox
