Not at all, theres nothing wrong with wanting protection for your new niece 
its not like your doing a wiccan ritual or magicks for her, your just wanting to bless her with protection in their belief system.
Holy Archangel Cassiel would probably be the best one or you could never go wrong with a crucifix.
